It’s been kind of a difficult day. I’ve been vaguely sick for a couple days and the water in the village has been out since yesterday. Food doesn’t stay in me very long and I’m out of water and I’m pretty dehydrated. That and the insane heat and it makes it a lot of effort to think or stay awake, which makes attempting to learn pulaar really really frustrating. It doesn’t help that I don’t have any of my usual stress outlets. The mail came today (happens weekly, or so) and I was really happy until it turned out that everyone got mail but me for the third time. I know people have been sending me stuff. It just hasn’t been getting to me. That’s pretty tragic. There is also the fact that I’m trying to quit cigarettes right now. My coping skills are pretty much at 100% capacity. Nothing else bad needs to happen between now and when the water comes back. Sigh.
That’s not true what I said about not having any of my usual stress outlets. This is my number one stress reliever right here. It helps to write things out. Type, really. I can’t actually write anymore. I feel a little better already. I think it helps a lot to be alone a bit, too. It’s really hard to keep my center when my body is so all over the place. Really I’m not proud of how grumpy I got today. I can do better than that.
Lunch was pretty good, so there was that. Delicious maafe (rice w/ meat in a peanut sauce). There are peanuts in everything here. Even the soap is made from peanuts. It’s fairly certain that anyone with a peanut allergy would die immediately on setting foot in the country.
It’s finally cooled down to reasonable levels now that the sun is down (a chilly 90 degrees).
